Things to know when operating a wireless system:

Each wireless system operator is required by law to file and obtain an FCC license. FCC license can be obtained directly by the end-user/operator through an authorized agent or by using Visiplex service to file for an FCC license through an authorized agent on the end-user's behalf. The FCC application process takes approximately two weeks and provides the end-user with a ten year renewable license. After ten years the end-user will receive a notification for renewal from the FCC and will be able to renew the license for an additional ten years. The obtained license is the property of the end-user.
Visiplex systems can be used over approved VHF & UHF paging bands that have been authorized for commercial voice & data applications. That is why a Visiplex system can be licensed to operate with RF power of up to 300 Watt and provide full coverage to any facility size. The approved paging bands are 148-172 MHz in the VHF band and 450-470 MHz in the UHF band (federal and military end-users can also use the 400-420 MHz). When applying for an FCC license the end-user can take advantage of the available wide spectrum of frequencies and choose a VHF or UHF frequency that will not interfere with any other in-house wireless equipment. During the years Visiplex was able to successfully obtain FCC licenses to thousands of its customers to match their system needs.

Cost justification:

Visiplex wireless paging systems offers benefits and features that can't be measured by its cost. Even so, a wireless system can significantly save new and existing facilities by taking advantage of its wireless design concept and special integrated features. For example, in case of a facility that would like to install or expand a Public Address system, a wireless solution can save $10,000 - $50,000 by avoiding the need to run wires. Additional savings can be gained by utilizing the system in a non-emergency situation for mass E-Mail text messaging, over the phone voice messaging, Public Address routine announcements and even facility wide wireless time synchronization.

Selecting the right transmitter size for your project:

To determine the size of a transmitter that will provide sufficient RF coverage to your project, you will need first to verify a few factors such as:

  • Facility Size - The total number of buildings and floors that needs to be covered.
  • Antenna positioning - Locate a central and the most elevated installation point for better coverage.
  • Construction materials - The more steel in the construction the more power you will need.
  • Shielded areas - Special areas (X-Ray rooms) will need more power or special handling.

For example; an average grade school will need 2-8 watts of transmitter power, average high school 8-10 watts, hospital 25-40 watts, large medical centers 40-100 Watts and large universities 100-350 watts. To get more help with choosing the right transmitter to match your project needs, please call our sales representatives.

Power outage protection:

Visiplex offers special power backup options to all its wireless paging products. Visiplex strongly recommends using a UPS power backup with the main paging controllers and the radio transmitters, to protect and maintain full operation during power outage situations. An optional internal battery backup is offered with most of Visiplex wirelessly controlled devices such as speakers, strobe lights and sirens. Please call our Sales department with any questions or requests.
